Former San Francisco mayor Willie Brown’s wife Blanche knew that Willie Brown was having extramarital affairs during their marriage, according to Willie Brown’s own autobiography. Brown had an affair with Democrat presidential candidate Kamala Harris when she was up and coming in the 1990’s, and the relationship helped to elevate Harris in the California political realm.

Willie Brown’s wife had a very interesting take on her husband’s infidelity, according to The New York Times‘ 2008 review of Brown’s book “Basic Brown: My Life And Our Times”:

“The author also shares Willie Brown’s secrets to a good marriage (Brown often refers to himself in the third person this way); his has lasted 50 years, mainly because Brown and his wife have lived apart for half of it. Brown devotes an entire chapter to his philosophy of womanizing. Just after he was elected mayor, he relates, a friend of his wife, Blanche, asked her about his latest paramour. “Listen, she may have him at the moment,” Brown quotes her as saying, “but come inauguration day and he’s up there on the platform being sworn in, I’ll be the bitch holding the Bible.’”

Thanks to @seswope on X for flagging this little nugget of information for me!

Conserve the Culture founder Michaelah Montgomery spoke at a President Donald Trump campaign rally and asked if “Mrs. Willie Brown” would think Kamala Harris cares about black families. It was a pretty hilarious moment.
