WNU Editor: Rep. Adam Kinzinger admits that this vote is going to cost him politically.
He does have a point.
Most of these GOP lawmakers are from safe Republican districts, and I am willing to bet that they are going to be facing some tough primary challenges before 2022. And it gets worse. Even if they are not defeated in a the next round of primaries, they will be shun by their fellow lawmakers.
But that is the least of their worries.
Voters in their districts voted overwhelmingly for President Trump. And now these lawmakers must face these voters to explain their vote.
That is not going to be easy, and I predict that most will avoid their constituents.
I think there is also the hope that with time time tempers will dissipate and this will blow over.
I have my doubts. But we shall see.
Update: More likely Rep. Kinzinger will be challenged in the primaries and kicked out …. ‘I do hope they start their own party’: GOP congressman supporting impeachment (ABC News).
