‘The Wheel of Time’ Season 3 Trailer Teases Nynaeve Vs. Moghedien — and I Am Giddy About It!!!

What to Watch

A brand new trailer for Prime Video‘s The Wheel of Time Season 3 dropped this morning, teasing all sorts of nerdy goodness like Rand al’Thor’s (Josha Stradowski) iconic visit to Rhuidean, continued tensions within the White Tower, and Perrin (Marcus Rutherford) seemingly leading a stand off against Trollocs. We get more of Moiraine (Rosamund Pike) confiding in Lan (Daniel Henney) that in every version of the future she glimpses, either she or Rand dies. There’s a cutesy scene between Rand, Perrin, and Mat (Dónal Finn) in a tavern, a brief first look at what appears to be Faile (Isabella Bucceri), and even a vision of Aiel wise ones, but the really, truly, insanely nerdy detail that I’m kvetching over on this “Trailer Gai’don” morning is that split second showdown between Nynaeve (Zoë Robins) and the recently released Forsaken Moghedien (Laia Costa).

Oh, yeah, it looks like Prime Video just confirmed that Nynaeve and Moghedien will cross paths in The Wheel of Time Season 3 and I am too giddy to function!

In case you’re not a fantasy obsessive, The Wheel of Time is a Prime Video show based on the series of the same name by Robert Jordan (with a posthumous assist by Brandon Sanderson). The second season ends with reluctant hero Rand fighting the Forsaken Ishamael (Fares Fares) at the coastal city of Falme. There, he’s able to defeat his enemy and the invading Seanchan with the help of his friends.

The new trailer for The Wheel of Time reveals most of the plot will focus on Jordan’s fourth book, The Shadow Rising. In that book, Rand travels with Moiraine to the desert landscape of the Aiel waste. They both go through separate perilous trials in the sacred city of Rhuidean: one offers Moiraine an initiation into the Aiel’s version of the Aes Sedai, the Wise Ones, while the other takes Rand back in time through the memories of his Aiel ancestors. Elsewhere in the same novel, Perrin returns to the Two Rivers where he leads a resistance against invading Trollocs.

What I’m super duper excited about, though, is the implication that Nynaeve and Moghedien will meet. Sure, it’s Lan advising Nynaeve that the Dark One and his supporters won’t just target Rand, but all of them, but I don’t think it’s Lan who is talking to Nynaeve in this shot.

Besides the fact it’s immediately followed by Moghedien’s ghoulishly happy face, the person touching Nynaeve has the inky black fingers of a Forsaken.

If Nynaeve and Moghedien do meet, it would be a really exciting showdown between a heroine who is supposedly the most powerful female channeler alive, even if most of her access to that power is mysteriously blocked, and a villainess so twisted she even terrifies her fellow Forsaken, Lanfear (Natasha O’Keeffe). Consider me out of my mind in anticipation!!!!!

Okay. That’s out of my system.

Now it’s time for me to move onto the shot of Natasha O’Keeffe’s Lanfear all in white so I can work on a theory that’s actually a glimpse of Mierin Eronaile in the Age of Legends via Rand’s journey to Rhuidean. (Flails some more.)

The Wheel of Time Season 3 premieres on Prime Video on March 13, 2025.
