Warsaw – European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos met with Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski and Minister for European Affairs Adam Szlapko. Kos expressed the belief that they will be able to accelerate the enlargement process during the Polish Presidency of the EU Council, which began on January 1. Sikorski supported her in this.

At a joint press conference after the meeting with Kos, Sikorski expressed hope that they would be able to speed up accession negotiations with candidate countries during the six-month Polish presidency of the EU Council. He announced that Poland would support the Commissioner’s plans in this area.

The European Commissioner from Slovenia, meanwhile, wrote on social network X after the meeting with Minister for European Affairs Szlapko that she looks forward to working with the Polish presidency.

“I am convinced that during the Polish presidency, we can accelerate the EU enlargement process to a level we haven’t seen in the last ten years,” she added.

Meanwhile, Szlapko wrote that EU enlargement is very high on the agenda of the Polish Presidency of the EU Council. “To strengthen its security, the EU must actively shape its neighborhood in line with our democratic values,” he emphasized.

Kos, who took office as European Commissioner for Enlargement on December 1 last year, visited Warsaw at the start of the Polish presidency of the EU Council, which is focused on various aspects of security. The entire European Commission should have visited Poland these days, but the visit was postponed due to the illness of President Ursula von der Leyen. (January 10)
