The new Leskovik-Ersekë road in southeastern Albania halves the travel time from 3 hours to just 1 and a half hours between these destinations, while assisting not only the residents of the area but also the visitors that increase every day.
The European Union Delegation in Tirana emphasized today that this road, funded by the European Union and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, helps in boosting tourism in the southeastern region of Albania.
“This road, which used to take locals living here 3 hours to reach Leskovik, has now been reduced to 1 and a half hours. This saving of 1 and a half hours makes the connection and closeness of these villages to the rest of Albania much more possible and easier,” stated Hubert Perr, Head of Cooperation at the EU Delegation.
In a meeting with the mayor of Ersekë, Erion Isai discussed the road’s impact on the daily lives of local residents, as well as its effect on tourism and business.
Local businessman, Leonard Konica stated that “the reconstruction of the new Leskovik-Ersekë road has had a very positive impact on the increase of tourism movement, especially for people living in this region.”
This road shortens travel distances and is an additional window for the development of tourism in Albania.
The road is 42.67 kilometers long, the width of the existing asphalt was about 4 meters, while the new asphalt is 5 meters along the entire length of the road.
The reconstruction of the Ersekë-Leskovik road aims to improve connectivity between regions and ease mobility towards the tourist potentials of the Korçë and Gjirokastër regions, bringing the expansion of the region’s tourism offer and increasing opportunities for sustainable economic regional development.
