The National Assembly adopted a declaration on guidelines for action in the EU

Ljubljana – The National Assembly adopted a declaration on the guidelines for Slovenia’s operation in the EU for the period between January 2025 and June 2026 on Friday. Prime Minister Robert Golob emphasized during the presentation of the declaration on Tuesday that the European Union must rely on itself, as the times when it could depend on allies and partners around the world in the areas of security and economy are over.
Golob was indirectly critical of the USA when he stated that the EU’s largest trade and security partner has clearly said that Europe must fend for itself.
The Slovenian Prime Minister highlighted the competitiveness of the European economy, strengthening the capital union, investing in knowledge, and enhancing security and resilience as Slovenia’s priorities within the EU.
The parliamentary groups mostly supported the declaration proposal during its presentation on Tuesday, although they were also critical. They felt it was too general and not updated in line with the changed geopolitical circumstances, with the world allegedly outpacing the EU “on the left and on the right.”
The declaration is a strategic document that was already approved in February by the National Assembly’s committees for foreign affairs and EU affairs. (April 25)
