‘The Monkey’
Oz Perkins delivered a horrifying masterpiece with last summer’s Longlegs, but his latest effort is far campier — and even manages to squeeze in a few laughs here and there. Perkins took Stephen King’s short story and spun it into The Monkey, a deranged, very bloody horror movie starring Theo James as two identical twins whose fortune is forever changed thanks to one toy monkey with seemingly endless evil plans. Tatiana Maslany stars as the boys’ beleaguered, tell-it-like-it-is mother, while Adam Scott makes a brief (yet memorable) cameo that’s sure to please Severance and Parks and Rec fans alike. If you’re looking for a wild ride, The Monkey is just the one.
