SURVEY: Two-Thirds of Americans Want Illegal Aliens Deported
Some nations live under the rule of law, and some nations live under the rule of men. We – the United States – are supposed to be the former, although there are those among us who apparently prefer the latter, as they choose to ignore the rule of law when it suits them. Some of those people are the politicians who support “sanctuary” jurisdictions, where illegal immigrants don’t have to fear arrest and deportation, even though their very presence in the country is violating our laws.

But a September 20-22 poll by Syracuse University/Ipsos is cause for hope; that poll reveals that two-thirds of respondents favor the deportation of illegal immigrants.
An Ipsos poll says 66 percent of Americans support the deportation of illegal migrants, which is a central promise of President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign.
The September 20-22 poll of 1,29 adults shows that 90 percent of Republicans and 68 percent of independents support the popular policy of “deporting immigrants who are in the country illegally.” The policy is also favored by 47 percent of Democrats.
That deportation policy is “strongly ” supported by 39 percent of Americans, including 71 percent of Republicans, and 39 percent of independents — but just 13 percent of Democrats. The “strongly” numbers are important because they show politicians how many Americans are likely to decide their vote on that issue.
The poll also showed that 65 percent of Americans view illegals as a major or minor threat.
At present, there are – at a minimum – 11 million people currently residing in the United States illegally. The actual number may be far higher. The problem is, we just don’t know, although we do know that there seems to be a constant stream of news stories about crimes committed by people in the country illegally – crimes beyond the one they committed by coming into the country in violation of our immigration laws.

Americans are, by and large, a welcoming people. Many of our ancestors were immigrants; from Europe, Asia, Africa, from all over the world. But there is a legal process for immigrating to the United States, and while it is sometimes time-consuming and torturous, it is our law, and must be followed, or else the law means nothing. It is illegal immigration, not immigration in and of itself, that Americans are concerned about.
The Harris/Biden administration has been the worst on this issue in generations. People are noticing, and the Syracuse/Ipsos poll isn’t the first showing American’s concern:
The Ipsos poll matches recent polls by Marist, YouGov, and Harvard-Harris. Those polls show clear majority support for enforcing the nation’s existing border laws that protect American strivers and families from poor migrants and employers who cheat by hiring cheap foreign labor.
The polling numbers rose sharply in 2024 partly because of President Donald Trump’s loud and clear denunciation of the White House’s deliberate importation of roughly 10 million migrants since 2021.

This is one of the major issues on which this election will turn. A mass deportation, granted, will be a logistical nightmare, but the border under Harris/Biden remains wide open even today. There’s an old saying: “When you’re in a hole, the first thing to do is stop digging.” The Harris/Biden administration is still digging, and they intend to dig deeper still. The first step in addressing this problem is closing the border – and only one of the two major party campaigns is talking about that. It’s not Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.
