‘Sing Sing’

What to Watch

No hate to Adrien Brody, but Coleman Domingo should have won the Oscar for Sing Sing. The actor shines in a moving performance as Divine G, a wrongfully incarcerated inmate at Sing Sing prison who helped found a theater program for fellow inmates. While working on the group’s latest production, G forms an unlikely friendship with the difficult new member Divine Eye (Clarence Maclin) and finds his own faith tested while trying to overturn his conviction. While Sing Sing is an emotionally powerful film on its own, it takes on even more meaning thanks to its cast, which is partially comprised of formerly incarcerated men who were members of the real-life Rehabilitation Through the Arts program themselves. Stick around for the credits and you’re in for a treat.
