Sarajevo (FENA) – High Representative Christian Schmidt made a decision prohibiting the implementation of the conclusions adopted at the 16th special session of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska (NSRS) on December 24 and 25, deeming them anti-Dayton and dangerous to the stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Office of the High Representative (OHR) states that the NSRS conclusions represent an attempt to legally and conceptually negate the Dayton Peace Agreement, a fundamental document for the state’s legal framework.

– Any violation or non-compliance with the Dayton Agreement questions the country’s stability and the possibility of democratically balancing political positions. The international community must act to protect this agreement to preserve a multi-ethnic, sovereign state without discrimination – reads the OHR statement.

The High Representative, as the final authority for the implementation of the civilian part of the Dayton Agreement, emphasized his responsibility to intervene in case of serious violations.

– Any attempt to implement the harmful elements of the adopted NSRS conclusions is declared illegal and punishable. Legal consequences will depend on the actions of the ruling coalition in the Republic of Srpska – Schmidt warned, urging NSRS members to exercise caution and avoid further legally unfounded decisions.

The United States and the United Kingdom supported the High Representative’s decision. The American administration emphasized its support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of BiH, while British Ambassador Julian Reilly assessed the NSRS conclusions as a threat to the constitutional order and the country’s Euro-Atlantic path on the social network X.

Otherwise, the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska adopted conclusions on halting decisions on European integration until democratic conditions are established in Bosnia and Herzegovina. One of the controversial NSRS conclusions includes a proposal to suspend the participation of RS representatives in state institutions, as well as a critique of judicial proceedings against Milorad Dodik, which they labeled as “inhumane” and contrary to European legal standards.
