Qld surgeon accused of sexual misconduct

Junior female doctors were barred by Queensland health officials from training under the supervision of a senior surgeon out of fear they would be exposed to his alleged sexual misconduct.

Letters tabled in parliament on Tuesday detail allegations against the Brisbane doctor, who still practises in a number of Queensland hospitals .

They reveal claims he inappropriately touched female colleagues, attempted to use his position to ask for sexual favours and invited colleagues to engage in sexual encounters.

“As a result of his alleged sexual misconduct towards junior female surgical doctors, Queensland Health and The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Queensland Surgical Training Board have not permitted junior female doctors to undergo General Surgical Training at (a hospital) where (he) is employed… yet he continues to practice there,” one of the letters says.
