‘Please Don’t Interrupt My Guest’: Anti-Israel Protesters Disrupt Colbert’s DNC Interview With Pelosi

Breaking News Politics USA World

In yet another example highlighting that the 2024 Democrat National Convention began as a disaster, then went downhill from there, CBS late-night host Stephen Colbert’s live interview with Nancy Pelosi was repeatedly interrupted by anti-Israel agitators, leading the host to plead: “Please don’t interrupt my guest.”

As Pelosi answered Colbert’s question about her reported involvement in the veritable coup that forced Joe Biden to drop out of the race, shouting from the audience could clearly be heard — and it continued throughout the interview.

To Colbert’s credit, he immediately responded to the demonstrators: “For the people who can’t tell, there’s a protest going on in the audience.” And that protest was aimed directly at Pelosi.

Colbert tried to quiet the disturbance at a commercial break, as he then turned to the use of U.S. power overseas.

Let’s talk about another aspect of power: the U.S. using its power overseas. As I said earlier, there is a political protester here. There is a political convention in town, you are a politician and protests are natural. People are protesting, even within the Democratic Party, there is dissension over what is the proper use of American power, especially our protected power overseas, both firm and soft power. If the goal is the peaceful and prosperous future for both Israelis and Palestinians, what role does the United States play?

As Pelosi responded, the shouts from the agitators continued.

Right now, we just got word earlier today that Israel had agreed to the ceasefire agreement. They’re hoping Hamas will, too. But it takes me to the point of, It takes me to the point of saying to you, war has no role in a civilized society. We have to learn more about trust and peace — learn more about each other — rather than to have conflict resolved by war.

How cute, Nancy. And how naive as hell. Have you had that conversation with the leaders of Hamas? Hezbollah?

Colbert continued to address the ongoing protest, asking Pelosi if she’d like to respond.

As you can see from the continuing protest out here, that answer is unsatisfying to some people…Would you like to respond to what they’re saying?

Pelosi continued to say that Israel has a right to defend itself, leading the protesters to shout even louder. As she argued in favor of a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestinian conflict, many of the protesters further lost their minds.

We have had a commitment to Israel. It’s been in our security interest to do so. Israel was attacked by a terrorist organization. We want the hostages freed. But we don’t want children killed in Gaza. And so we have to come up with a solution.

Poor Nancy was damned if she did, damned if she didn’t, regardless of her responses.

“Please don’t interrupt my guest,” Colbert directed at the agitators one last time.

“Madam Speaker, we’re a live show, and we have to go at this point,” Colbert said to Pelosi at the end of the disastrous interview, adding: “Please come again and we can continue the conversation.”

And that was that.
