One Of Them Days is a throwback to the forgotten buddy comedy of the early 2000s and late ’90s. Keke Palmer and SZA star as roommates Dreux and Alyssa who have to scramble to earn their rent money back within just a couple of hours or risk being evicted. The best friends try to stay in high spirits as each money-making scheme goes terribly, terribly wrong, but there’s only so much these girls can take when it feels like the universe is getting them down every step of the way. Not only are they stuck roaming Los Angeles in ridiculous outfits with little to no money to their names but the ladies are being hunted by the local bully, Berniece, who is out for revenge. The One Of Them Days script is laugh-out-loud funny with tight, snappy dialogue that feels contemporary and appropriate for its stars. And it’s a great acting debut for singer SZA, who holds her weight as Keke Palmer’s unreliable but lovable friend.
