Oman to host first Middle East conference on space sector in 2024
Muscat – Oman will convene the Middle East Space Conference on January 8, 2024. More than 350 global space experts, including senior executives from both governmental and private sectors, are set to attend the first meeting of its kind in the sultanate and the Middle East.
The event will be organised by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology in collaboration with Euroconsult, a Paris-based consulting firm that specialises in the space and satellite sector. The conference aims to address key challenges and opportunities in the space sector in the Middle East, including financing, market trends, satellite communications and Earth observation.
An exhibition featuring local and international space technology companies will be held alongside the conference to draw investments, foster new business relations and highlight the latest industry advancements.
Highlighting the objective behind hosting the event, H E Dr Ali bin Amer al Shidhani, Undersecretary for Communications and Information Technology in MTCIT, said Oman seeks to fortify its stance in the regional and global space sectors, leveraging its unique competitive advantages.
“The conference is a chance to enhance global awareness about the Middle East’s space opportunities. It provides a forum for industry leaders to connect and forge partnerships,” H E Shidhani said.
Pacome Revillon, CEO of Euroconsult, remarked on the significance of the event. “Holding the Middle East’s first space conference in Oman underscores its pivotal role in regional space endeavours. It’s an opportunity to showcase present and anticipated space activities to the international community.”
Earlier this year, MTCIT unveiled a national policy for the space sector, signaling its ambition to boost local space activities. The conference will further spotlight the Omani Space Programme and its ambitious vision for both Oman and the broader Middle East region.
