Narco Banner and Sombreros Placed Next to Tortured Bodies near Mazatlan, Sinaloa
By “El Huaso” for Borderland Beat
The tortured and bound bodies of four men were found dumped next to a threatening narco banner in the town of El Walamo, south of Mazatlan, Sinaloa on Friday morning. A rancher style hat with the letters “MF” was placed on each body.
The lettered hats are a reference to rivals fighting for local drug lord Ismael Zambada Sicairos, ‘El Mayito Flaco’. Gunmen fighting for Los Chapitos have placed these hats next to rival Mayito Flaco corpses several times over the last few months as conflict between both factions has flared in Sinaloa state.
The message translates as:
This will happen to all of those who exaggerate about information, recruiting people, and heating up the plaza for the MAYOS MF – CABRERA.
Both factions have acquired branding symbols which are worn by their members and frequently used in their narco communications. The Chapitos associate with a pizza, a symbol based off a nickname “Chapizza”. As a result, pizza emojis are used on their social media posts, pizza patches are stitched on their hats and plate carriers, and their rivals will sometimes leave slices of pizza on the bodies of killed Chapitos gunmen.
On the other hand, the Mayos faction associate with the symbol of a rancher style sombrero, utilizing the branding in a similar manner.
Bodies left with hats in September 2024 in Culiacan, Sinaloa.
The message in this article is unsigned but is most likely left by the Chapos faction of the Sinaloa Cartel as a mockery of the Mayos brand.
