Some older devices will be losing Netflix support from December 2019 including some older Smart TVs and Roku devices. Here’s what we know.

Earlier in October, CordCuttersNews first reported that multiple Roku devices would be ending Netflix support by the end of November 2019. These devices are older devices that were confirmed to be the first two Roku models that are set to lose support from December 1st, 2019 onwards.

Netflix refers anyone affected by the changes to a page with the following:

Due to technical limitations, Netflix will no longer be available on this device after December 1st, 2019. Please visit netflix.com/compatibledevices for a list of available devices.

Roku Players aren’t the only devices losing support for Netflix in 2019. Older smart TV’s are also set to be losing support. In some of the users we’ve spoken to who received the notification said that their smart TVs are roughly seven years old.

To know whether your TV is set for losing Netflix support it’d be a good idea to load up the application as soon as possible and see if a banner displays.

It’s not rare for this to happen. Last year, for example, the Nintendo Wii lost Netflix support to the disappointment of many.

This is a regular occurrence as Netflix keeps its app up-to-date with features and that means that older devices fall off as Netflix cannot maintain updates any longer.

As of October 2019, iOS devices require version 12.0 or higher and Android requires version 8.0 or above to run Netflix.

Netflix will continue supporting some of the older games consoles too for the meantime including the likes of the Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii U. Netflix for Nintendo Switch still doesn’t exist, sadly.
