‘Mo’

Comedian Mo Amer, who many may recognize from Ramy, is the star of his own complicated saga in this poignant Netflix series. Mo Najjar is an undocumented citizen of the world – born in Kuwait to a Palestinian family that moved to Houston, Texas, where he is driven to extremes to make ends meet for his loved ones as he waits to be granted asylum. But you can’t keep Mo down. He’s a hustler through and through, whether he’s selling bootleg products out of his trunk or working as a bouncer/DJ in a strip club. Season 1 ends on an unbelievable cliffhanger, but now is the perfect time to catch up on the show as Season 2 recently premiered on Netflix and is ready to be binged. Mo is painfully similar to Ramy in that viewers will find it easy to sympathize with such a compelling protagonist; but it becomes all the more difficult to watch them stumble through life as the odds stack against them. Mo maintains its heart and sense of humor throughout both seasons, thanks to its diverse and bilingual cast.
