Ministry of Foreign Affairs: By the end of 2024, the EC had led 67 infringement proceedings against Slovakia

Bratislava – By the end of 2024, the European Commission (EC) had initiated 67 infringement proceedings against the Slovak Republic concerning violation of common European legislation, mostly related to the incorrect transposition or application of legally binding acts of the European Union (EU). This is reported by TASR.
The data is derived from the annual report on Slovakia’s EU membership for the year 2024, which the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs (MZVEZ) of Slovakia submitted for interdepartmental review.
Out of the total number of proceedings, 27 were initiated due to failure to notify transposition measures for directives, 14 due to incorrect or incomplete transposition of directives, 18 for incorrect application of European Union law, and eight proceedings were initiated for other reasons.
Compared to 2023, there were eight more proceedings against Slovakia. “The Slovak Republic is among the states with a higher number of infringement proceedings under Articles 258 – 260 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union,” the ministry noted. (February 17)
