‘Mickey 17’

Look, it’s no Parasite, but this new sci-fi flick from Oscar-winner Bong Joon-ho—now available to buy and rent on digital—is the sharp, bizzarre satire that these dark, strange times call for. Mickey 17 stars Robert Pattinson as an “expendable” clone named Mickey, who is tasked with dangerous jobs where he’s all but expected to die. Once he bites it, no big deal—they just print out another clone! But on Mickey’s 17th iteration of life, something goes wrong, and Mickey finds himself facing his own humanity like never before. The film’s critiques of capitalism, fascism, and narcistic commanders-in-chief aren’t exactly subtle. But it’s still wildly entertaining and inventive, anchored by fantastic performances from Pattinson, Steven Yeun, and Naomi Ackie.
