52′ Souths bomb certain try
It’s getting worse for the South Sydney Rabbitohs.
Cody Walker makes a brilliant line break and just needs to complete the simple pass to the left, where Jack Wighton just needed to run 20 metres and put the ball down.
But that pass was behind Wighton, over his back shoulder, at temple height.
Wighton could not catch the ball and any hope of scoring ends there.

Jye Grey passes HIA
Good news for South Sydney, fullback Jye Grey has passed his Head Injury Assessment and is on the field for the second half.

46′ TRY: Sharks score fifth try as Souths defence fails again
Braydon Trindall has Cronulla’s fifth try of the afternoon, and this game must be done.
A line break from Ronaldo Mulitalo set up the play.
On the next tackle, Trindall ran to the corner, and Souths winger Mikaele Ravalawa ran backwards towards his own deadball line, letting Trindall sneak into the corner.
I have no idea what Ravalawa was doing. He was six metres inside his own in-goal when Trindall grounded the ball.

Slow start for South Sydney
Hello Mick, I’m a bit late to the party and it looks like the Rabbits are as well…

Welcome to the ABC Sport live blog of Saturday’s NRL action.
It has been a shocking first 40 minutes from the Rabbitohs.
In fairness to the Sharks, they were very good.
South Sydney coach Wayne Bennett will need a very good half-time talk to get his troops fired up for the second 40 minutes.
HT: Cronulla Sharks 20 leading South Sydney 0
A very simple first half from the Cronulla Sharks has earned them a 20-0 lead over the South Sydney Rabbitohs.
Two long-range tries will be played on highlight reels for the rest of this season.
For South Sydney, they are probably fortunate it is only 20-0.
Defensively they were out of sorts, and in attack, they never looked like scoring.

38′ Rabbitohs fail to complete a set move off the scrum
If one play sums up the South Sydney first half, it has just happened.
The Rabbitohs had a scrum 15 metres out, and a chance to get some points before half-time.
Souths have a set move, but Cody Walker threw a cut-out pass that went to no-one. A knock-on from Jack Wighton diving on the loose ball ends the play, that never really started.

Souths fullback off for a head injury assessment
It is getting worse for Souths.
Jye Grey, who has probably been the only one who can hold his head up high, has been called for a Head Injury Assessment from the independent doctor.
Jack Wighton moves to fullback.
30′ TRY: Cronulla score as Souths crumble
Cronulla are toying with Souths — and the defensive effort in that play was not up to standard.
Sam Stonestreet collects a kick, deep in his own end. He throws a poor pass to Will Kennedy, who then beats a defender and gives the ball to Kayal Iro who makes the liner break.
Rabbitohs fullback Jye Gray makes a sensational cover tackle, but Iro throws the ball back infield. Nicho Hynes collects the footy, passes to Kennedy and the fullback finishes off the 85-metre try.

27′ NO TRY: Souths holding on as Sharks continue to hunt points
Siosifa Talakai has just been denied as try, grounding the ball on the ground short and then rolling it to the line.
That is now two reprieves for the Rabbitohs in the past five minutes.
Cronulla have seemingly been on the attack for most of this half.
When Souths have had attacking opportunities, they have not fired a shot or note.
The Rabbitohs are fortunate it is only a 16-point deficit.

23′ NO TRY: Stonestreet flies like Superman, but drops the ball
As a neutral, I am so disappointed this is no-try.
Winger Sam Stonestreet flew through the air, had his whole body over the touchline, and appeared to have scored an amazing try. But the ball just came loose from his fingertips before it was grounded.
21′ TRY: Sharks go 108 metres to score a magnificent try
Oh my heavens. The Sharks have just put in their application for try of the year.

Kayal Iro has finished off a 108-metre play to score Cronulla’s third.
Souths put in a kick and Cronulla winger Ronaldo Mulitalo collected it eight metres deep in his in-goal.
Mulitalo beat some poor defence and was tackled eight metres out of the in-goal, but got an offload off to Will Kennedy.
Kennedy then shuffled the ball onto Irio who sprinted, beat one final defender, and finished off the try.

15′ NO TRY: Souths denied by the sideline
Souths debutant Mikaele Ravalawa has come millimetres from scoring for the Rabbitohs.
Ravalawa, with two men driving him to the sideline, grounded the ball and was celebrating.
The winger did incredibly well, but his heel just grazed the sideline. The Bunker says no try.
The Sharks can breathe a sigh of relief. Souths had a full set inside the 20m, after a forward pass was called on Ronaldo Mulitalo. Had that pass gone backward, Sharks centre Kayal Iro was away and could have run 90 metres to score.
9′ TRY: Sharks slices through to score again
Briton Nikora has got himself on the scoresheet, punching through a whole after collecting a beautiful pass from Nicho Hynes.

It is Nikora’s third try this season.
Since the first try, the Rabbitohs have not touched the ball. They gave away two penalties, including a high tackle from Jamie Humphreys, who dove on a grounded Shark and hit him in the head.
The pressure on their line was too much for the Rabbitohs, who defended roughly 10 tackles on their line after giving away a six-again restart.
4′ TRY: Nicho Hynes scores for the Cronulla Sharks
It is the perfect start for the Cronulla Sharks, they are the first to score inside four minutes.

Hynes was running towards the right and threw a nice dummy, sliced through the defensive line, and scored untouched.
A knock-on from Rabbitohs winge Isaiah Tass from a high kick gave the Sharks a full set inside from 10 metres out.
Kick-off on Saturday NRL at Shark Park
The whistle is blown and we are underway.
The Sharks kick-off and will run from right to left.
The ball hits the ground, and club debutant Mikaele Ravalawa completes his first hit-up as a Rabbitoh.

Jack Wighton and Mikaele Ravalawa are IN for Souths
The Rabbitohs coach, Wayne Bennett, must be thrilled to have Jack Wighton and Mikaele Ravalawa in the team for this afternoon’s match.
Both are a threat with the ball in hand and can cause the best defenders a challenge.
Today is Ravalawa’s first match for the green and red of Souths.
For the Sharks, they are fielding the same side that beat the Cowboys last week. Coach Craig Fitzgibbon clearly does not want to mess with a winning formula.
Team lists in for Cronulla and South Sydney

Reece Walsh charged in Broncos win
Brisbane Broncos fullback Reece Walsh will avoid missing any matches if he accepts an early guilty plea for a shoulder charge in last night’s win over the North Queensland Cowboys.

The 22-year-old fullback was put on report in the second half for a shoulder charge on North Queensland winger Murray Taulagi.
The MRC gave Walsh a grade-one charge and with an early guilty plea he can pay a $3000 fine and be available to play the Dolphins on Friday night.
If Walsh fights the charge and is found guilty he will receive a two-game ban.
Walsh made five errors, set up winger Jesse Arthars for a try with a glorious pass and landed a 65-metre 40/20 kick that turned the momentum Brisbane’s way after they had been camped on their own line during a scoreless opening 20 minutes.
