To the Editor:
Well since we are trying to whitewash history and pretend bad things never happened by tearing down statues, burning books, changing names, etc., let’s tear down the presidential election process while we are at it. It’s a perfect year to do so.
Neither convention should be held. Voting will be a nightmare at best. The electoral college is under fire. Both candidates seem to have reduced mental capacity. So let’s start fresh and make up our own election process.
My suggestion: elect tri-presidents. Write in Steve Bullock, Democratic governor of Montana, a red state; Larry Hogan, the Republican governor of Maryland, a very blue state; and Charlie Baker, the Republican governor of Massachusetts, a very blue state.
The three most popular governors in the country getting the job done in states loaded with opposition voters. Just a thought.
By the way, while we are tearing down, make sure we defund the police and get rid of stuff like 911. All anyone uses it for is if their cat is stuck in a tree or if a dog is barking in the neighborhood.
And legalize all drugs. After all, they really are fun. Put up free Narcan stands. There’ll be no cops to bring it.
And let all but the most dangerous criminals out of jail – they really didn’t mean to be bad to begin with, and most are very sorry they were bad. Besides, they ended up in jail because of the bad police guys.
Plus change all politically incorrect sports team nicknames – Redskins to the ‘Whiteskins’, Fighting Irish to the ‘Happy People,’ Celtics to the ‘Overtheres,’ Bears to the Chipmunks, Pirates to the ‘Funny Boat People,’ etc.
Now one very serious subject regarding Black Lives Matter. The organization has made us quite aware of too many Black deaths at the hands of police in recent years, one, Freddie Gray several years ago in my wife’s hometown of Baltimore. But BLM does not address the horrible inner-city carnage in this country that is mostly Black on Black. Baltimore as an example – over 300 murders per year for five straight years. 94 % of the victims are Black. 91% of convictions are black. Think about those numbers. Hundreds of Black lives being ended or ruined- year after year in one city! Where is the outrage? Where is Black Lives Matter? I beg of you, where is the outrage?
This was a hard letter to write – I wanted to have some fun, but also to mention this terribly serious problem in our inner cities that gets little attention. Fun and murder don’t go well together. Thanks for putting up with my ramblings.
