John Fund to Newsmax TV: Impeachment Trial May Never Come

Politics USA World

With President Donald Trump leaving office, President-elect Joe Biden needing to get his administration’s Cabinet in place, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., holding the cards, the latest House impeachment might have run its course, according political pundit John Fund on Newsmax TV.

“Clearly, Nancy Pelosi didn’t want a trial before Trump left office – in fact, I wonder if she ever wants a trial,” Fund told “Saturday Report,” noting, as last time, she is holding on to the article of impeachment and not delivering it to the Senate yet.

Fund told host Carl Higbie, Biden is “not enthusiastic about the Senate completely consumed with an impeachment trial,” because the Senate would have to commit its full attention to that matter as Biden seeks to get Cabinet nominees approved through the Senate confirmation process.

“I’ll make a prediction here, Carl: I don’t think there’s going to be a trial,” Fund concluded. “I think Nancy Pelosi – just as she has sat on many other things, like the stimulus bill for political reasons – won’t send the article of impeachment over to the Senate for weeks.

“And, ultimately, there might not be a trial.”

Earlier Saturday morning, constitutional law expert Alan Dershowitz noted to Higbie, the Senate cannot try an ordinary American citizen, so hearing an impeachment trial of a former president would be unconstitutional.
