After President Biden’s executive orders to dismantle America’s energy independence and cancel the Keystone XL pipeline permit, Leader McCarthy and House Republicans spoke in Houston, TX yesterday to highlight the importance of American energy and the danger of these policies.
As the country continues to deal with the economic crises caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the federal government should not be in the business of killing jobs and raising energy costs for struggling families. There are already over 11 million Americans out of work, and the cancellation of the Keystone XL pipeline will add thousands to that pool. Not only does the move kill jobs, it will also devastate local economies surrounding the project. Numerous communities will face cuts in critical education, infrastructure, and healthcare resources. It’s clear that those who can least afford it will be harmed the most by this disastrous decision.
House Republicans are committed to protecting energy jobs. Yesterday, 85 House Republicans introduced the Keystone XL Pipeline Construction and Jobs Preservation Act. This bill authorizes the construction and operation of the pipeline and states that a Presidential permit is not required. This legislation reaffirms House Republicans will not allow the Biden administration to leave hard-working Americans behind.
