‘Holland’

Nicole Kidman’s new movie now streaming on Amazon, Holland, would have been a lot better if it had actually filmed in the real Holland, Michigan. Nevertheless, as a Michigander myself, I was charmed by this mystery thriller, starring Kidman a school teacher whose quiet life in Holland—a Michigan town known for its Dutch heritage and annual Tulip Festival—is upended when she becomes convinced that her husband (Matthew Macfadyen) is having an affair with another woman. It doesn’t quite stick the landing, but it’s fun and stylish, thanks in large part to visual flairs from director Mimi Cave. And I couldn’t resist those hyper-specific Michigan references. “This is Holland, not Allegan!”
