Gavin Newsom’s Plan to Model California Gun Control Bill After Texas Abortion Law Just Happened

Breaking News Politics USA World

I can only imagine (no, really) the challenges faced by conservative Californians — I know many of them, personally — on a daily basis, living in the whacked-out, no-longer-golden, People’s Republic of Kalifornia, particularly with an arrogant, self-adoring, left-wing governor like Gavin Newsom.

You people have my sympathy. You always have and you always will.

So, Newsom — ever the gun-grabber — in December, laid out one of the most ridiculous plans I’ve ever seen from this guy, and there have been many, pledging to empower private citizens to enforce a ban on the manufacture and sale of so-called “assault weapons” — although my personal favorite and most hilarious is “weapons of war” — in the state, citing the same authority claimed by conservative lawmakers in Texas to outlaw most abortions once a heartbeat is detected.

As reported by NPR, California has banned the manufacture and sale of many ridiculously misnomered “assault-style” weapons for decades. A federal judge overturned the ban in June, ruling it was unconstitutional. Needless to say, Newsom and California Democrat lawmakers immediately dissolved into fits of histrionic hyperbole upon hearing the devastating news.

Even more incensing to angered Democrats was the judge’s comparison of the popular AR-15 to a Swiss Army knife as “good for both home and battle.” The ban remains in place while the Democrat-controlled state appeals the ruling.

Meanwhile, Newsom proposed new legislation in December. Here’s a brilliant nugget of NewsomLogic™ if there ever was one, as transcribed by NPR:

If states can now shield their laws from review by the federal courts that compare assault weapons to Swiss Army knives, then California will use that authority to protect people’s lives, where Texas used it to put women in harm’s way.

[No, nimrod — Texas “used it” to put a yuuge dent in the idiscriminate, on-demand murder of pre-born children.]

If the most efficient way to keep these devastating weapons off our streets is to add the threat of private lawsuits, we should do just that,

Let me know when you stop laughing. We good? OK, so here’s the thing, right out of the chute.

Newsom and the Democrats in the California State Assembly are disingenuously attempting to compare abortion-prevention apples to gun-grabber oranges by ridiculously suggesting gun manufacturers are somehow responsible when bad guys do bad things with guns.

This is tantamount to suggesting Ford Motor Company was responsible when the despicable thug I shall not name sped his Ford Escape through a Christmas parade in Waukesha, intentionally killing six people.

Anyway, Newsom’s generalized plan came together in the form of legislation, last week, as reported by the Los Angeles Times. (Emphasis, mine.)

Assembly Bill 1594 would hand the Democrat-controlled state, local governments, gun violence survivors and victims’ families the power to pursue legal action against “irresponsible, reckless or negligent gun manufacturers, importers and dealers,” said Assemblyman Phil Ting of San Francisco, one of three Democrats pushing the plan.

The proposal predates the Texas bill and replicates a 2021 New York gun control law that targets manufacturers, Ting said, but still “gets at the spirit of what the governor called for.”

Ting lied the same lie Democrats always lie: “This puts the power back into the hands of the people.”

To do what? Sue gun manufacturers for crimes they had ZERO responsibility in causing, much less the ability to stop? The power to drive up the cost of firearms for law-abiding gun owners because manufacturers would be forced to carry liability insurance — no doubt mega-expensive — and incur other costs they don’t now have? The power to drive some firearms makers out of business, just to satisfy the nutty gun-grabber crowd?

Perhaps the most ridiculous part of all, these clowns are incapable of understanding why Californians are fleeing to Texas and other states in record numbers.

A bit more detail, per the L.A. Times:

The bill would leverage a loophole in federal law that largely shields gun manufacturers and dealers from liability when their products are involved in a crime.

[C]ompanies and sellers are still liable under state regulations, and AB 1594 aims to hold them accountable to those in California such as required rigorous background checks and a ban on sales to people prohibited from owning firearms.

The proposed law would ensure distributors and manufacturers are not causing a “public nuisance” with their products or “engaging in unfair business practices.”

Said Assemblymember Phil Ting, to “clarify”:

What we are quite simply trying to do is just to make sure gun manufacturers are really held responsible for the harm that guns do on our streets every day here in California.

We think that if the manufacturers, importers, and dealers will take greater responsibility that will make our streets much safer.

SMDH (Shaking my damn head). Once again, a complete crock of illogical crap. But, hey — Gavin Newsom. And California Democrat lawmakers.

Sum it up for you? Me, too.
