The night of this November 30, the former mayor of Cortazar, Guanajuato, Hugo Estefanía Monroy, was executed when an armed commando attacked the facilities of one of its transport companies, located on the Las Tears road, in that municipality.
According to the newspaper Reforma, his wife, former local deputy Alejandra Torres Novoa, a brother and another person were injured in the attack.
Estefanía Monroy was investigated by the Attorney General’s Office of Guanajuato for his possible link with the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel, headed by the huachicolero leader José Antonio Yépez Ortiz “El Marro”

Three days ago, the former mayor reported that he was the victim of a robbery by armed men who stripped him of his luxury van when he went to a hotel in the city of Cortazar.

According to the first inquiries, the attack on the politician was direct, and he received several bullet impacts of heavy caliber. He died when he arrived at the private hospital Guadalupano.
In recent days, in the same state of Bajío, hitmen stormed three public hospitals in Apaseo el Grande, Juventino Rosas and Salvatierra. In the latter town, the commando entered the General Hospital from where it took a man who had been treated for injuries from a gun fire, and then left him lifeless in an adjoining municipality.
The events were captured by the hospital’s cameras, and would have occurred on November 21 (according to unofficial sources), when men with weapons submitted a watchman, and then entered several rooms in search of the deceased today, whose body was located dismembered and with a cardboard.
A similar situation was experienced in the public hospitals of Apaseo el Grande and Juventino Rosas, where criminals took by force two men who were treated for firearm injuries, after the Attorney General’s Office and the Mexican Army carried out operational in the Laja Bajío area.
