Former Acting ICE Director Tom Homan slammed President Joe Biden’s new immigration policy, telling Fox News, “it’s inhumane to put your children in the arms of cartels,” and said Mexico is taking advantage of a broken system.
Homan was addressing Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’ statement that there wasn’t a “crisis” at the border.
“Don’t tell me this is compassion!” Homan responded during an appearance on “Fox & Friends.”
“Putting your children in the hands of criminal cartels is inhumane, is dangerous, and it’s just bad. So, I’ve seen it and I and I just I can’t believe that statement was even made.”
Mexico’s administration is taking advantage of a broken system, he added.
“Last year, Mexico received $40 billion in remittances from illegal migrant workers in the United States. [The U.S.] sent money back to Mexico; 40 billion in a year of a pandemic,” Homan said.
“So, of course, the Mexican president wants to send more people here because he doesn’t have to take care of them. He doesn’t have to provide social services. … This is a win-win for Mexico, bad for the United States, bad for the American worker.”
Mayorkas during a press briefing Tuesday said the Biden administration was working to “replace the cruelty” of the Trump administration with “an orderly, humane, and safe immigration process.”
“The men and women of the Department of Homeland Security are working around the clock seven days a week to ensure that we do not have a crisis at the border — that we manage the challenge, as acute as the challenge is,” Mayorkas told reporters, adding that the “challenge” is not just for the government.
“All understand it is imperative,” he said. “Everyone understands what occurred before us and what we need to do now.”
He added: “And we are getting it done.”
