In short:

Carter Gordon has joined the Gold Coast Titans early after being released from his Rugby Australia contract.

The 23-year-old had already signed with the Titans for the 2025 and 2026 seasons.

What’s next?

Gordon may play in the second-tier Queensland Cup this season.

Former Wallabies fly-half Carter Gordon has trained with the Gold Coast Titans for the first time after signing with the club for the rest of the NRL season.

Titans coach Des Hasler confirmed 23-year-old Gordon is not on the Titans’ top-30 roster but has signed an NRL deal.

Gordon has been released from the remainder of his 2024 Rugby Australia contract after earlier inking a two-year deal with Gold Coast for 2025 and 2026.

Hasler, speaking at a media conference on Wednesday, said he was pleased Gordon had “started his integration” into the NRL.

“He trained with us this morning and has started his development and education,” Hasler said.

Gordon signed with the Titans in the wake of the Melbourne Rebels’ axing from the Super Rugby Pacific competition.

Hasler said Gordon might play in the Queensland Cup this year.

“We are in no rush. We don’t need to,” Hasler said.

“We will let him get settled and go from there.”

The Titans already have playmakers Kieran Foran, AJ Brimson, Tanah Boyd and Jayden Campbell on their roster.

But Hasler is yet to settle on exactly where Gordon will play in the NRL.

“We will determine that over the next couple of months,” Hasler said.

“He is solid and has all the qualities. He has represented his country in union so he has some great skill so we will see how that develops.”

Gordon, who grew up in Queensland, made his Test debut for the Wallabies against South Africa in Pretoria last year.

He played eight Tests and was a member of the Wallabies’ squad that failed to advance from the pool stage at last year’s Rugby World Cup in France.
