Dems and GOP Combine to Try to Curtail Biden’s War Powers, Call Biden out for Not Informing Them on Syria Bombing

Breaking News Politics USA World

We’re seeing a fascinating approach by some Democrats to try to limit Joe Biden’s powers.

Makes you kind of wonder what they know or suspect, why they’re so worried, right?

First, about three dozen Democrats tried to restrict Biden’s control of the nuclear codes, sending him a letter saying that he should give up sole control of the codes, because of “real risks” of an accident or rogue launch.

As my colleague Mike Miller wrote:

The Democrat lawmakers suggested several alternatives to sole nuclear authority, such as requiring the vice president and House speaker — numbers two and three in the line of presidential succession — to agree with a launch order from the president before it is executed, according to Politico.

So in other words, Biden isn’t able to make the decision himself if need be? Then why is he there?

Funny how this didn’t come up with Barack Obama or any prior Democratic president. Funny that they want a check on him using Kamala Harris and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (Delusional-CA).

But now Democrats, along with some Republicans, are making another move to curtail Biden.

According to The Hill, a bipartisan group of senators introduced a bill on Wednesday to curb his war powers. It’s being pushed by Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) and Sen. Todd Young (R-IN). In addition to those two there are 3 other Republican senators and 3 other Democrat senators including Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE) (senator who holds Biden’s old seat and is his long-term friend), Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT), Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY).

They’re trying to repeal two authorization of military force resolutions from 1991 and 2002 that referenced Iraq that presidents have since used to justify such actions as the Syria bombing (although Biden didn’t cite it as a justification in this action according to The Hill.

The senators don’t like the fact that Biden didn’t consult them before taking his first military action and they’re trying to reel him back in, Kaine said, “Last week’s airstrikes in Syria show that the Executive Branch, regardless of party, will continue to stretch its war powers.” He said he wasn’t happy that he found out about the strike on the news and he’s on the Armed Services Committee. He encouraged the Congress to take it up and called on the Biden team to agree to it. He said that he though they were “willing to engage.”

Biden hasn’t even briefed the senators on the strike yet, according to Politico. He briefed Senate aides on the rationale on Tuesday, that it was in retaliation for strikes on U.S. installations. Some said they weren’t satisfied with what they heard including Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) who questioned the use of force outside of Iraq. He said he didn’t hear anything that convinced him. Aides said that the briefing was “unsatisfactory” and lacked “substance.”

It’s interesting that Democrats, even ones close to Biden, are going to this length to curtail him.
