The Sinaloa cartel claimed responsibility for the murder of Tijuana police officer Francisco Miguel López Llanos, killed with two firearms outside his home in Playas de Tijuana. Jonathan Torres, Jaime Vega and Josué Bañuelos, (Presumed innocent, as long as their responsibility is not declared by the judicial authority. Art.13, CNPP), allegedly took the life of the agent when he arrived home in the company of his daughter at his home on Avenida Las Peñas.

By means of a narco message placed on the pedestrian bridge at the main access to Playas de Tijuana, the Cartel de Sinaloa warned that the attack was motivated by alleged links between the agent and the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). The message was signed by 30 and 50 and KBZONS.

There is a record that Lopez Llanos had been mentioned in other violent messages in 2018 where he also warned of alleged links to the police officer who lost his life aboard his 2016 Tahoe pickup truck in the city of Tijuana.

Officially it was announced that the police arrested the three suspects in the murder of the police officer, after a chase that left clues with the abandonment of the Land Rover vehicle that the alleged murderers abandoned at a gas station located at the access to the El Soler subdivision on second street.

Lopez Llanos was on vacation, and in his previous employment he worked with inmate management, informed the Secretary of Municipal Citizen Security in Tijuana.

Narco message reads as follows:
This happened to officer Lopez Llanos because he was supporting the Jalisco New Generation Cartel. Yours truly, 30, 50, and Kabezones from Cartel de Sinaloa
