206th Military Police Company Spent Almost 10 Months In Basra

JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST, N.J. (06/12/2010)– More than 160 members of the New York Army National Guard’s Latham-based 206th Military Police Company returned to the United States Saturday after serving almost 10 months in Iraq. The Soldiers flew into Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst Saturday afternoon. They will go through out-processing there and are expected to return home at the end of the coming week. The 206th Military Police Company entered Active Duty in June of 2009 and deployed to Basra Iraq in August 2009. While there the Guard Soldiers helped train Iraqi police officers and assisted in providing security for Iraqi elections held in April. Following out-processing at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, which was formed from a merger of the Army’s Fort Dix, McGuire Air Force Base and Naval Air Station Lakehurst, the Soldiers will go on leave and then return to their civilian lives. The New York Army National Guard already has two reintegration events schedule for the Soldiers and their families to help make that transition. These sessions are conducted through the New York National Guard’s Yellow Ribbon Program.
