‘A Goofy Movie’

A Goofy Movie first hit theaters 30 years ago this week. This spin-off of the Goof Squad TV series follows single father Goofy embarking on a cross-country road trip with his son Max Goof, in hopes that the two of them will reconnect while driving across the country. Max, who has just scored a date with his crush Roxanne, is reluctant, if not flat out annoyed, to go on this trip with his dad, and in typical Goof fashion, things go completely awry but bring the father and son closer together. Despite a mixed critical response, the film has achieved cult status with fans as characters and music from A Goofy Movie started to become more prominent within Disney with a legacy that includes the songs “Stand Out” and “I 2 I” by pop star Powerline (Tevin Campbell). A Goofy Movie‘s 30-year anniversary was also marked by a new making-of documentary, Not Just a Goof, which premiered on Disney+ earlier this week.
