‘Crew Girl’

As the name Crew Girl implies, the new Netflix series follows Teagan Tao (Miku Martineau), an award-winning young rower destined to compete at Stanford. But the YA series paddles itself into the waters of outrageous tropes of the genre. After her hotelier father (Byron Lawson) is exposed for fraud and abandons her and her mother Ella (Jessica Paré) to escape the police, leaving them with next to nothing, Ella and Teagan flee from California to Massachusetts; specifically, to Ella’s late parents’ home. While Ella is reminded of the past she wanted so desperately to leave behind, Teagan is left to navigate Easton Prep, the bougie prep school that unfortunately does not have a women’s rowing team. But will that stop her? Nope! She ultimately becomes a coxswain for the men’s team, and catches the eye of not one, but two of her teammates.This series is a deliciously bingeable watch for all the reasons you might expect.
