‘Julie and the Phantoms’

Get to know one of the newest Heated Rivalry cast members by checking out the 2020 Netflix one-season-wonder that he starred in. Charlie Gillespie will be playing Troy Barrett when Season 2 of Heated Rivalry hits our screens in the Spring of 2027, but for many (myself included), our first exposure to the Canadian actor was as one of the leads in Julie and the Phantoms. The series follows teenager Julie, a talented musician who has lost her passion for singing following her mother’s passing, and three ghosts who used to be a band in the ’90s. The ghosts inhabit Julie’s garage studio, and for some reason, they’re only visible to her — unless they’re playing music, then anyone with eyes can see them. Gillespie plays Luke, the lead singer of Sunset Curve who, given a second chance to roam the earth as a ghost, has to make amends and face parts of his past that are still difficult to process. The show has great original songs, direction from teen musical legend Kenny Ortega and surprising emotional depth, but most of all, you’ll find that Gillespie has electric chemistry with absolutely everyone and real talent to back it up.
