‘The Law According to Lidia Poët’

Netflix’s The Law According to Lidia Poët is an intoxicating gem of a procedural crime drama, buoyed by an incredible performance from star Matilda De Angelis. Loosely inspired by real historic events — Lidia Poët was a real person, a woman who made international headlines when she became the first female lawyer in Italy, only to be disbarred on account of her gender — The Law According to Lidia Poët recasts the historic figure as a feisty feminist determined to defend the innocent from an inherently unjust justice system. What makes the show so fun, though, is it’s not just a case-of-the-week procedural, but a steamy soap opera complete with twists, turns, and clandestine hookups. The Law According to Lidia Poët feels like some hybrid of Gentleman Jack, Elsbeth, and your favorite k-drama.
