When Does ‘High Potential’ Return? ‘High Potential’ Season 3 Release Date Update

What to Watch

Tuesday nights are about to look a little different over on ABC.

Back in the day, the network delivered back-to-back-to-back bangers with new episodes of The Rookie, Will Trent, and High Potential. Sadly, The Rookie moved to Mondays (and aired its season finale last week), and Will Trent and High Potential are done for the season.

The good news? All three shows have been renewed for new seasons! Not only that, but a spinoff of The Rookie, the Jay Ellis-led series The Rookie: North, has been officially picked up for 10 episodes and will debut in early 2027 on ABC. That’s great news about The Rookie franchise, but what about High Potential?

When can we expect High Potential Season 3 to debut on ABC? Here’s everything we know.

Is High Potential New Tonight (May 12)?

Nope. The Season 2 finale of High Potential premiered Tuesday, April 7, on ABC.

Celebrity Jeopardy! All Stars airs tonight at 8:00 p.m. ET, followed by The Mystery of Richard Simmons: A Diane Sawyer Special at 9:00 p.m. ET.

ABC’s primetime schedule concludes with a rerun of High Potential (“Second Sunday”) at 10:00 p.m. ET.

How Many Episodes Are In High Potential Season 2?

Season 2 of High Potential consists of 18 episodes.

Has High Potential Been Renewed For Season 3?

Yes! In March 2026, ABC renewed High Potential for Season 3. It was also revealed that the series would have a new showrunner, with Todd Harthan leaving to work on a live-action adaptation of the YA book series The Inheritance Cycle (currently titled Eragon).

After the events of the season finale, it was also announced that Steve Howey would not be returning as a series regular for Season 3. Deadline reports that Howey could potentially be back as a “guest star at the start of next season to wrap his character’s arc.”

When Does High Potential Return With New Episodes?

It was revealed at the Disney Upfront event that the old “Tuesday Cluesday” trio of High Potential, Will Trent, and The Rookie will all be held for midseason debuts, which means the shows won’t be back with new episodes for the fall 2026 season. No official release dates have been announced, but all three shows are expected to return in early 2027 (most likely January).

“What we’ve seen the last several years, and we’ve really proven this out with Will Trent and The Rookie back in midseason of 24 and 25, is we want to give viewers a chance to watch these shows with as little interruption as possible across the season,” ABC’s SVP of Content Strategy and Scheduling Ari Goldman said. “So I think when we get to the midseason plans, and you think about the opportunities that we have on the ABC schedule, going from New Year’s Rockin’ Eve to the College Football Playoff, the Grammys, the Oscars, and obviously the Super Bowl. I think we have such amazing momentum at the start of 27 to bring the show back in a big way.”

High Potential and Will Trent will most likely air on Tuesdays, with The Rookie and the upcoming spinoff The Rookie: North together on Mondays.
