30′ Melbourne hold on as Tigers find their groove

By Michael Doyle

This is more like the Wests Tigers we have grown acustom too this season.

A big line break down the right flank allowed them to enter the Melbourne defensive 20.

A six-again restart gave Wests a full set at the goal-line.

The Tigers went close to scoring on a couple of plays, but the defence of the Storm scrambled well and did not cave in.

By Michael Doyle

Wests Tigers finally had a chance to attack after Melbourne’s Nick Meaney lost the ball inside his own half.

It gave the Tigers a full set at the Storm, starting from just 20 metres away.

But Melbourne’s goal-line defence, which has been poor in recent weeks, never looked threatened.

A nice kick from Jahrome Hughes to the right corner allows big winger Wil Warbrick to jump over Wests winger Luke Laulilii.

Warbrick catches the ball in the air and then slams the footy on the ground.

It was too easy for Melbourne, aided by a pair of six-again restarts.

The Tigers will need to fix their discipline quickly.

Thinking of Manly forward Siosiua Taukeiaho

By Michael Doyle

Arvo Michael and appreciate your pole position for this round. Hoping for a Storm revival followed up with a Panthers masterclass please and no injuries please. The serious Manly injury yesterday is concerning.

G’day KB.

The injury to Manly’s Siosiua Taukeiaho last night was concerning.

At this stage, we do not have any confirmation of how bad his lower leg injury is.

Can the Tigers inflict an eighth straight loss on Melbourne?

By Michael Doyle

Hey Mick 😀👋 TIGES!! 🧡🖤🤍

– Natty

It is hard to believe Melbourne is on a seven-match losing streak.

And they are not certain to win at home today either.

It looks like ABC Sport reader Natty is hoping for more Melbourne misery.

Melbourne hoping to fix their on-field isses this afternoon

By Michael Doyle

The Melbourne Storm are on a club-record seven-match losing streak.

They have had narrow losses and blowouts.

Today, they face the Tigers who have been good this season, with the exception of last week.

Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy has spoken to Fox League ahead of this afternoon’s clash.

He has spoken of what has gone wrong over the past seven weeks.

At times we’ve been pretty good but we just haven’t done it for 80 minutes, especially our second half.

Our start to the second half has been very disappointing.

We’re all trying really hard to rectify the bad parts of our game and hopefully, there might be some signs of that today.

More injury woes for the depleted Broncos

By Michael Doyle

reporting by AAP

Brisbane have suffered another body blow to their forward pack with prop Jack Gosiewski ruled out of their blockbuster against the Warriors with a concussion.

(AAP)

Gosiewski left the field late in the Broncos’ hapless 32-4 loss to Manly at Brookvale on Saturday night, and it is understood his head knock was ruled as a category one.

It means the Broncos forward will enter the NRL’s concussion protocols, ruling him out of Magic Round and Brisbane’s heavyweight clash with the Warriors.

The Broncos will get halfback Adam Reynolds back for that match, but the defending premiers are desperately short on troops.

Gosiewski joins fellow forwards Payne Haas, Corey Jensen, Brendan Piakura, Blake Mozer and Billy Walters on the sidelines.

Prop Ben Te Kura is also still unavailable while attending a six-week NFL training camp in the USA.

None of that group are expected to return next week, while Brisbane are also still without suspended centre Kotoni Staggs along with injured backs Grant Anderson, Delouise Hoeter and Deine Mariner.
