Ellis starts with a loopy slower ball and Nissanka drops it into the leg side for a quick single.

A full-pace delivery on middle stump and Mendis defends it into the leg side for a dot ball.

Another good delivery from Ellis, this one on off-stump at 138 kph, Mendis can’t do much other than defending.

3rd over – Bartlett leaks runs as Sri Lanka get on a roll

By Chris De Silva

FOUR! Nissanka charges down the pitch and hits Barlett past the wide mid-on. He didn’t time it well, but it’s enough to get a boundary.

FOUR MORE! Bartlett leg side again and Nissanka whips him away to the fine leg boundary. Some much-needed momentum for Sri Lanka.

Bartlett gets the next one to jag back into Nissanka and gets himself a dot ball. Good delivery.

Nissanka goes for another expansive drive but inside edges it, it’s two dots in a row.

Barlett goes for a big slower delivery but gets it wrong, and it’s a full toss down leg side, which is called a wide.

Bartlett drops the next one shorter with full pace, and Nissanka pulls it away to the sweeper for a single on the leg side.

FOUR! Brilliant touch from Mendis, dabs a length delivery past the two men inside the ring behind square on the off side.

That’s a good over for Sri Lanka.

2nd over cont – Kusal Mendis is the new man at the crease

By Chris De Silva

Kusal Mendis, Sri Lanka’s form player in this World Cup, is now out there.

This is a very important partnership for the co-hosts.

Stoinis goes shorter with his first delivery and Mendis punches it into the off side for a single.

Another good delivery from Stoinis, honing in on off stump, and Nissanka knocks it into the off side for a quick single.

Mendis gets inside the ball and gloves it fine past Inglis, and a brilliant diving stop from Ellis restricts them to just two runs.

Stoinis finishes with a dot ball, just four runs off the over. Excellent stuff.

CAUGHT! Stoinis removes Perera in his first over

By Chris De Silva

Kusal Perera’s return to the Sri Lankan side is short-lived!

It looks like a premeditated slog from Perera and he top edges it and is caught at deep point.

Kusal Perera c Ellis b Stoinis 1 (3), FOW: 1-8

2nd over – Stoinis to share the new ball

By Chris De Silva

Marcus Stoinis is going to bowl in the powerplay once again.

He’s got his left hand strapped up after copping a nasty blow against Zimbabwe.

Inside edge from Perera off the first ball, and a wonderful dive from Josh Inglis behind the stumps saves four runs.

1st over – Bartlett to take the new ball for Australia

By Chris De Silva

Xavier Bartlett with the ball in hand and Pathum Nissanka taking the first ball for Sri Lanka. Here we go.

Starts with a good length delivery on off stump, swinging it away ever so slightly and Nissanka defends into the off side.

A little shorter and Nissanka punches it off the back foot down to the sweeper at deep backward point for a single.

Good delivery from Bartlett, squares Perera up and his leading edge allows him to pick up a single into the off side.

SIX! Bartlett strays onto Nissanka’s pads and he’s clipped away over fine leg, what a shot that is! Brilliant wrist work.

Ooooh he’s missed out there. Full and wide outside off and Nissanka nails a cover drive but it’s straight to a fielder.

BEATEN! Bartlett seams one away and beats Nissanka’s waft. There’s a brief appeal from the bowler, but he’s got no support.

Sri Lanka’s innings set to get underway

By Chris De Silva

We’re already ready for the second innings of this match.

Australia’s players already out on the ground and awaiting Sri Lanka’s opening pair.

Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Perera set to face the music. The home side will want a strong powerplay in the first six overs.

Sri Lanka will require 182 runs to win

What do we make of that innings then?

Sri Lanka looked absolutely listless in the first six overs as Travis Head and Mitch Marsh rattled off 70 as a part of a 104-run opening stand.

After Head was caught on the boundary, everything turned sour for Australia.

They lose their last 10 wickets for 77 runs and fall well short of 200, which they looked like they’d breeze to at one point.

182 would be a record chase on this ground for Sri Lanka, but they’ve got momentum on their side and they’ll be expecting the dew to play a big part as well.

Sri Lanka picked up 6-30 off the last five overs in Australia’s innings, just phenomenal death bowling.

RUN OUT! Zampa run out off the final delivery

By Chris De Silva

Incredible scenes! Australia bowled out for 181!

Zampa drives the final ball into the off side and sets off for a first and decides to chance his arm for a second but he’s well short.

Adam Zampa run out 1 (1), FOW: 181

RUN OUT! Australia’s collapse continues as Bartlett goes

By Chris De Silva

Nathan Ellis plays and misses on another slower ball and as the Aussies try to sneak in a quick single, an underarm from Kusal Mendis behind the stumps catches Xavier Bartlett, the non-striker, short.

Xavier Bartlett run out (Mendis) 0 (3), FOW: 9-180

20th over cont – Ellis is the new man at the crease

By Chris De Silva

Nathan Ellis gets greeted with a brilliant bouncer that he can’t really do anything with.

This is outstanding death bowling from Chameera.

CAUGHT! Stonis falls to another brilliant catch

By Chris De Silva

I’ll tell you what? These Sri Lankans are taking some absolute hangers today.

Stoinis gets completely fooled by another slower ball and edges this one to the man at short third man.

It’s dying on Maheesh Theekshana, but he dives forward and takes a wonderful catch.

Marcus Stoinis c Theekshana b Chameera 4 (6), FOW: 8-180

20th over – Chameera to wrap up the Australian innings

By Chris De Silva

Australia look poised to fall well below 200 here unless Stoinis goes nuts. Chameera to bowl the last over.

Starts with a slower short delivery which Stoinis defends into the off side, and it’s another dot ball, four in a row.

I think Stoinis is going to take strike for all six of these deliveries.

Chameera goes for a yorker and Stoinis digs it out and some good running sees the Aussies pick up two. Oh no, that’s a no-ball as well. The dreaded siren comes out, so Australia gets a free hit here.

Swing and a miss! It’s another brilliant slower delivery from Chameera, and he gets out of trouble with a dot ball.

19th over cont – Xavier Bartlett is the new man at the crease

By Chris De Silva

Bartlett bottom-edges a pull shot attempt with his first delivery, it’s another dot ball for Sri Lanka.

A yorker which completely beats Bartlett’s slog attempt! Good keeping from Kusal Mendis, who stops the ball with his pads. Two straight dots.

Finishes with three straight after another perfect wide yorker.

Just two runs and a wicket from that over, brilliant stuff from Theekshana to finish.

CAUGHT! Connolly comes and goes!

By Chris De Silva

Australia faltering at the death here!

Cooper Connolly gets done by a Theekshana off-spinner as his slog sweep attempt goes straight up in the air.

Kusal Perera takes a terrific diving catch at short third man.

Cooper Connolly c Perera b Theekshana 3 (4), FOW: 7-177

19th over – Theekshana to bowl his final over

By Chris De Silva

Maheesh Theekshana is back after being exclusively deployed in the powerplay for his first three overs.

Theekshana starts around the wicket and Connolly plays and misses the first delivery which strikes him on the thigh pad.

The next one is cut away nicely, and another brilliant stop in the deep, this time from Mishara, the sub fielder, limits it to two runs.

18th over cont – Connolly the new man at the crease

By Chris De Silva

Cooper Connolly strides to the wicket, he’ll have one delivery from Chameera to negotiate.

He stays around the wicket and finishes with a slower ball and Connolly knocks it into the off side for a single.

A good over from Chameera that, just seven runs off it with a wicket as well.

CAUGHT! Inglis perishes to a quick bouncer

By Chris De Silva

Lovely delivery from Chameera!

An inch-perfect bouncer at 140 kph which clearly hurries up Inglis.

Inglis goes for a pull and hits it straight up in the air and is caught by Wellalage.

Josh Inglis c Wellalage b Chameera 27 (22), FOW: 6-174

18th over – Chameera to continue

By Chris De Silva

Can Sri Lanka keep the Aussies under 200?

Chameera starts around the wicket to Inglis with a slower ball and this time Inglis misses his reverse sweep attempt.

FOUR! SHOT! Inglis punches this one straight down the ground, times it absolutely beautifully and it beats the diving deep mid-off fielder.

The next one is slogged away on the leg side past square leg and another good bit of fielding from Kamindu limits it to the single.

Chameera stays around the wicket to Stoinis, who defends the ball into the off side and picks up a quick single.
