Marina Zenovich’s sensational new documentary about the life and career of infamous comedy legend Chevy Chase has been making the rounds on social media. Almost everyone agrees that I’m Chevy Chase and You’re Not is a fascinating watch, but the subject of the documentary once again finds himself embroiled in controversy due to his abrasive behavior. Zenovich’s engaging film evokes a wide range of emotions as all sides of the self-described “complex” Chase are on display, with viewers vacillating between repugnance, nostalgia, and pity as they try to reconcile the joyous memory of the art with the complicated legacy of the artist.

I’m Chevy Chase and You’re Not is now streaming on CNN.com and will be available on HBO Max on January 31.
