Michael B. Jordan Wins Icon Award at Palm Springs Film Awards, Reveals ‘Sinners’ Props He Took Home

What to Watch

Hollywood’s biggest stars officially descended on the desert Saturday night as the Palm Springs International Film Awards rolled out the red carpet on January 3.

The event brought out cast members from some of the most buzzed-about films of the year, including Sinners, One Battle After Another, and Sentimental Value. Several attendees were also there to accept honors for their work, among them Timothée Chalamet, who was recognized for Marty Supreme, and Amanda Seyfried, who received an award for The Testament of Ann Lee.

Before the ceremony kicked off, Michael B. Jordan stopped to chat with Desert Sun, revealing that he walked away from the set of Sinners with more than just memories. Jordan, who received the Icon Award, Actor for his dual performance in the film, admitted he managed to snag a few props along the way.

The actor is heading into an especially packed stretch, with Best Actor nominations at the Critics Choice Awards (January 4) and the Golden Globes (January 11). Still, Jordan says he’s staying grounded as awards season ramps up.

“The headspace for me is one day at a time, one step at a time, one event at a time. I’m in the middle of editing as well, so I’m kind of dipping between the two, which is a nice break a little bit from all the noise, kind of keeps it about the work,” Jordan said. “It’s double duty, but it feels good to start something off on the right foot.”

Sinners clearly left a lasting impression. Jordan revealed he took home several keepsakes from set, including his characters’ lighter, grills, hats, dice, and cigarettes.

Looking ahead, Jordan also teased his upcoming role behind and in front of the camera for The Thomas Crown Affair, which he’ll direct and star in. While details remain under wraps, he described the project as a reimagining that’s “more dense than the other films with a bit of a twist to it, more than your usual heist love story. It’s a pretty layered film, I would like to think, and fun.”

Jordan also had a standout red carpet moment when he spotted fellow honoree Amanda Seyfried, sharing that he “loves her.” The two briefly embraced after Seyfried leaned in for a kiss on the cheek — a fittingly warm moment amid a night full of awards-season buzz.
