16th over – Carse continues after wicket
England building some pressure after the dismissal of Head. It’s Brydon Carse to continue.
Well left by Marnus as Carse puts another one on that awkward line just outside off stump.
Marnus has the most runs with 960 in 10 day-night Tests at an average of 64.
Carse goes fuller and Marnus drives him down to the fielder at mid-off.
CLOSE! Groans from England’s slips cordon as Marnus shoulders arms at another delivery from Carse that almost takes out the off stump. Woah that was close!
Carse has settled into a really nice line here. Marnus doesn’t take a risk this time and defends the next ball in a similar area.
The next ball is a bit too short and Marnus is able to defend confidently on the back foot. That one was just over 140 km/h from Carse.

15th over – Stokes causes some concerns for batters
Stokes comes over the wicket like Carse did to the right-hander. He’s got three slips and a gully in place.
Starts with a short one and Marnus easily sways away from that one. Decent pace from Stokes at 138km/h.
A little fuller that time from Stokes as he angles one towards middle stump, but it’s still too short and Marnus works it on the leg side for a dot. That’s a no-ball as well as Stokes has overstepped.
CLOSE! Stokes gets one to rear up off a length outside off and the ball hits Marnus flush on the forearm as he tries to leave it. He’s very lucky that’s not cannoned back onto the stumps. That’s hit one of the cracks.
A better delivery on the off stump line from Stokes that is awkwardly defended by Marnus.
Shorter again from Stokes, but that’s too straight and Marnus pulls it away into the leg side for a single.
Stokes comes back around the wicket for Weatherald and has him defending on the front foot to a full ball outside off stump.
BEATEN! THAT’S BETTER BEN! He gets one on a good line and length and the ball pitches and leaves Weatherald slightly, narrowly missing the edge of his bat en-route to the keeper.

14th over continued – Marnus comes to the crease
Marnus Labuschagne strides to the wicket full of confidence after his catch and unbeaten half-century last time out.
England would dearly love to remove him cheaply. That was a scrambled-seam delivery from Carse that removed Head.
A little too straight for Carse as he aims one at Marnus’ pads and it’s flicked away for no run on the leg side.
Carse looks so much more comfortable bowling to the right-hander from over the wicket here. He’s still a little bit too straight through two deliveries to Marnus.
Finally a good one on the off stump line angling in and Marnus defends solidly.
Carse goes a little shorter with the next ball on the same line and Marnus drops it into the off side and calls Weatherald through for a quick single to get off the mark.
Another short delivery to end the over and Weatherald defends on the back foot.
WICKET! Carse removes Head!
Travis Head is livid with himself!
He tries to flick one off his pads here and gets through the shot far too early and the ball goes straight up in the air.
Carse got the ball to straighten after pitching and that’s what’s done Head in there.
Gus Atkinson has a few nervy moments but settles under it and takes it comfortably at mid-on.
That’s a massive, massive wicket for England. Head is gone for 33 off 43 deliveries.

14th over – Carse continues
Australia has 41 off the last four overs. Carse is back despite being expensive so far.

13th over – Head continues to take attack to Stokes
England needs Ben Stokes to provide some inspiration badly here. What has the skipper got in his bag?
Like Carse, Stokes is also operating from around the wicket.
FOUR! He goes for a full ball at the stumps, but this is overpitched and Head just punches it back past the bowler for a boundary.
Stokes over-corrects with a short delivery and Head works it into the on side but can’t beat the man at mid-wicket.
This feels ominous if you’re England, I must admit.
FOUR! Too full from Stokes and this time too leg side and Head clips it over midwicket for another boundary. Australia flying here.
Head has 26 runs off his last 10 deliveries faced after starting with four runs from his first 29.
A better delivery from Stokes as Head hops into the back foot and defends it into the leg side.
Stokes finally gets that off stump line, but he’s driven through the covers nicely by Head for another two runs.
Head flicks the final ball of the over into the leg side and picks up another easy single. Stokes’ first two overs have gone for 18.

12th over – Carse returns after first-over pasting
Brydon Carse is back after a drinks break. England needs a wicket, and badly.
This bowling has not been good enough with the new ball. They’ve tried to do too much and haven’t been able to handle the movement that naturally comes with the pink ball.
Then there’s that Smith drop, which must be doubly demoralising for England given the catches Carey took last night and then Labuschagne this morning.
Carse stays around the wicket and starts with a shorter delivery to Head, and the direction is good this time.
They still need to get fuller though, the length has been far too short here. Not enough balls hitting the stumps.
Carse goes fuller that time and Head works it away on the off side for a single behind square.
SIX! Short again from Carse and Weatherald gets under this one and clips it over the slips cordon for the maximum! Terrific shot.
Carse finally directs one a little fuller and at the stumps and Weatherald defends it down the pitch.
Another ball back of a length and Weatherald chops it onto the off side for a single. He’s looking very comfortable out there, and is seeing the ball well.
Wide from Carse to finish the over and Head throws his bat at it and picks up a single through the off side. Carse’s first two overs have yielded 23 runs for Australia.

11th over – Stokes brings himself on
A big moment in this innings as Ben Stokes sees some of the carnage from the last few overs and says enough is enough.
He’s starting around the wicket to Travis Head.
A horrible full toss on Head’s pads to start with, and he flips it onto the leg side for three runs.
Bronx cheers from the Aussie crowd for Jamie Smith as he catches the ball from a throw in from the deep.
Smith’s drop has already cost England 17 runs, but it’s fair to say England’s first 10 overs with the ball has been very average to say they least. They haven’t bowled two balls in the one spot.
FOUR! Too short, too wide from Stokes and Weatherald lays into a cut shot behind square. He’s now hit five boundaries in his last 11 deliveries.
Stokes goes super full and Weatherald tries to cover drive him but can’t quite beat the infield.
Weatherald goes for another cut to finish the over, but this is too close and he under-edges it.

10th over – Brydon Carse comes into the attack
Atkinson has been hit out of the attack so it’s Brydon Carse who steps into the void.
Weatherald sees a single off him into the leg side.
Head is all akimbo out there, attempting a cut to a ball that’s not there to cut and he just slaps it awkwardly to mid off. No run.
Head attempts a cut again and mishits it, again.
FOUR! That’s better from Head! He connects with one at last and sends it flying to the rope for a one-bounce four. Too wide and short from Carse.
SIX! Too wide and too short again from Carse! Head cuts again and this time it’s six to third man. Dross from Carse, who needs to tighten his line urgently.
Head cuts another one! Carse, unperturbed by being smacked over point two times in a row, sees another ball sent that way.
Incredible. They run three.
Time for a change at the keyboard, Chris De Silva comes in.

9th over – Archer as another one
Probably his last.
Oh what’s happened here? Both men seemed to back out at the same time.
Head clips to midwicket and then has to scarper back to get in his ground as Ollie Pope sprung up with the ball and flung the ball towards the stumps. He missed and Head was in, but he needs to stay alive.
DROPPED! HEAD HAS BEEN DROPPED BY SMITH! Oh a disaster for England. You’ve got to take those. After a superb performance from Alex Carey yesterday, Jamie Smith has dropped a sitter. Archer thought he had him, justifiably so. Head survives, dropped on 3.

“That’s a bad drop. Sorry, that’s a bad drop from Smith,” ex-England spinner Phil Tufnell says on ABC Sport.
“He gets two hands to it. You’re disappointed if you’re putting those ones down. That should be gobbled up. You’ve got the gloves on for a reason.”
Archer sends one down through to the keeper. He is frustrated, And just has a chat with Ben Stokes at the end of his run up.
Head clips the ball to the leg side, gets a single and the crowd cheers ironically as Smith takes the catch from the return throw.
FOUR! Weatherald slaps at the ball, top edges it and it lands just inside the rope for a one-bounce four.
Weatherald gets a single off the last ball, more cheers as Smith catches another return throw.

Looks like it
Head looking a bit more nervous out there compared to Perth?
– Doc
He is normally a slow starter, to be honest.
And looks very twitchy as well.
But yes, he does look a bit tentative out there at the moment.

8th over – Atkinson continues
FOUR! Weatherald with a sumptuous drive through the covers! That’s raced away off the bat and Weatherald looks the real deal out there this afternoon – lovely cricket shots when the opportunity presents.
He leaves the next.
I don’t think England have quite got it right so far today – not enough balls challenging the stumps or making the batters play.
Weatherald clips into the ground and on the bounce to Duckett at gully. No run.
SHOT! FOUR more for Weatherald, flicking off his pads and away to the backward square leg boundary. This outfield is fast and true and Australia’s opener is up and running here.
FOUR! Weatherald goes the other side now! A lovely drive square through cover. Atkinson is being carted here and needs to sharpen up.
He leaves outside off to end a very good over.

7th over – Archer has look at Weatherald
First time in this match for Archer to look at a batter who is not Travis Head.
Weatherald defends. Archer is still coming around the wicket to Weatherald – I’m not sure I like that. Get him back over the wicket for mine.
Weatherald tucks off his hip for a single to square leg, using the angle of the delivery from around the wicket to help it on its way. It was 145km/h, mind.
BEATEN! Head swishes his bat at a wide one and again comes close to nicking that through to the keeper.
Head tries to pull towards square leg but can’t time it – he’s not timing things well at all yet today, the makeshift opener. Still early in his innings, mind.
Head gets another ball that angles into him and he can’t get it away. Over.
57m agoFri 5 Dec 2025 at 4:42am
6th over – Atkinson continues
Weatherald gets off the mark with a quick single – nicely played. Rotating the strike is a good play for Australia here.
And now Head clips away for a single too. Good signs for the Aussies here.
Outside off, good carry through to Smith.
BANG! That’s a good ball, just getting that extra bounce off a length that Atkinson has been known for in England. That’s hit him on the gloves. It won’t bother the Territorian though – they breed then tough up there.
He defends the next one nicely down the pitch.
Weatherald clips away for a single to midwicket. Easy does it.

5th over – Archer continues around the wicket
And Head gets clobbered by a rising delivery into his hip. 142.7km/h angling into the left hander – it’s not going to tickle…
Head cuts away but there’s no run, that time Archer was at 146.8km/h.
Head gets off the mark as Archer strays to the leg side too much and he is clipped to square leg – a couple of runs off Head’s 15th delivery faced.
FOUR! Down the leg side, in fact, leg byes as Archer’s radar goes awry as he looks for that extra bit of pace.
BEATEN! That’s better from Archer, Head dangling the bat out and lucky not to get an edge. That was so close to finding his bat there.
More pace from Archer has Head hopping a little in his crease. Quick over from Archer, but not a successful one.
1h agoFri 5 Dec 2025 at 4:35am
4th over – Atkinson continues
And continues the run of dot balls as Weatherald defends.
He leaves the next one outside of off, left well alone by the Tasmania opener.
FOUR! Lovely shot to get off the mark, a late cut outside off and he sends it wide of gully and down to the boundary rope. Lovely shot.

Outside off, left alone by Weatherald.
Outside off again, England barely making this pair play at all at the moment, wasting the hardness of this pomegranate ball.
FOUR! Oh that’s not a great shot but the outcome is good, a wide bouncer that Weatherald scoop-hooked over his head and, despite Jamie Smith attempting an Alex Carey, he was unable to get there in time and it’s a one-bounce four at the long stop position.
1h agoFri 5 Dec 2025 at 4:30am
3rd over – Archer continues
Australia yet to score, and Head leaves that one well alone outside off as Archer comes around the wicket.
Head has to fend the next into the leg side, better line from Archer, although Head was equal to it.
Head fends that one back down the pitch. Good batting from Head, just seeing off this new ball period.
Head can’t clip Archer away, 141.8km/h that last delivery – he’s warmed up a bit now, has Archer.
Head looks to drive square but there’s a fielder at point who fields the ball.
Head rides the bounce and tries to fend the ball to point, but there’s still no run there.
Another maiden.
1h agoFri 5 Dec 2025 at 4:27am
2nd over – Gus Atkinson shares the new ball
Wicketless in Perth, Gus Atkinson has the new ball alongside Archer.
BIG APPEAL TO START! Looked a bit high initially and England are not going to have a closer look at this.
Good carry from Atkinson there, nice start.
England’s three slips and the gully all put their hands up as another ball passes by the outside edge. That one was 137km/h from Atkinson.
Solid defence there from Weatherald to midwicket for no run.
Weatherald leaves well alone outside off.
CLOSE! That’s a little bit sloppy from Weatherald, just dangling the bat out as the ball passes outside off.
1h agoFri 5 Dec 2025 at 4:22am
1st over – Jofra Archer will start things off
Fresh from his highest Test score with the bat, Jofra Archer has the pink ball in his hand, with Travis Head facing up and Jake Weatherald at the non-strikers end.
Wide down the leg side, Head leaves that alone.
Archer again goes down the leg side, Head leaves it well alone. 135km/h for the English tearaway.
Archer finally bowls one on the off side but it’s just as wide and left well alone by Head.
Down the leg side again – Head won’t mind not having to play a single shot so far in his innings.
Head is finally forced to use his bat, defending back down the pitch. It’s not been express from Archer at the moment, although he’s warming up, that last one was 139.8km/h.
And Head clips to midwicket to end the over. A maiden to start for Archer.
