‘Caught Stealing’
Apparently, a lot can go wrong when you’re asked to catsit for your neighbor. Set in New York City in the ’90s, Darren Aronofsky’s Caught Stealing stars Austin Butler as a former baseball prodigy working as a bartender after his dreams were dashed by an unfortunate accident. Hank Thompson finds some hope in his loving girlfriend, but his life gets turned upside down when his anarchist neighbor (played by a very convincing Matt Smith) skips town and leaves him on the hook with gangsters hailing from seemingly every corner of New York City. Caught Stealing truly hits its stride in the third act but Butler once again proves himself to be a grounding, powerful on-screen presence. It also features a star-studded cast with several recognizable faces – from award-winning actors like Regina King to rappers Bad Bunny and Action Bronson, – but the film manages to feel so immersive, it makes for less of a who’s-who and more of a fun joy ride.
