France: The Assembly approves the budget allocated to the European Union

Paris – France’s contribution in 2026 approved on Thursday by the deputies is 28.8 billion euros, which is “5.7 billion euros more than in 2025,” according to the Minister Delegate for Europe, Benjamin Haddad.
“This is not a drift,” but an increase that is explained by a “catch-up” planned “in the trajectory that was voted on by the member states and by the parliamentarians in 2021 during the negotiation of the multiannual financial framework,” he explained. “We also fought for the Commission (European) to control its spending, which led to a less significant increase than anticipated.”
The minister also highlighted the “returns” that France benefits from, particularly through the common agricultural policy (CAP).
A long debate took place in the hemicycle regarding the examination of this article of the finance bill for 2026, discussed in the first reading.
Several amendments aimed at reducing the envelope, submitted by La France insoumise (radical left), the communists, and the National Rally (far right), were rejected. (November 13, 2025)
