Furious Sunny Hostin Claims Democrats “Caved” With Deal To End Government Shutdown On ‘The View’: “Shame On The Democrats”

What to Watch

The View‘s Hot Topics segment got heated on this morning’s episode as Sunny Hostin ripped into Republicans and Democrats for their handling of the longest United States government shutdown in history.

For over a month, the government has been closed due to the fact that neither party could come to an agreement on a bill extending funding of government services. According to Whoopi Goldberg, eight Senate Democrats “threw in the towel” over the weekend and “sided with the GOP to a advance a vote that could lead to the government reopening,” which has left some of their colleagues displeased, including Hostin.

“The Republicans run the House, the Republicans run the Senate, the Republicans run the White House, the Republicans run the Supreme Court, as far as I’m concerned,” she said. “This was a choice by Republicans to cut SNAP benefits, this was a choice by Republicans to cut ACA subsidies, this was a choice by Republicans to gut the federal government and federal employment.”

“Democrats had nothing to do with it,” Hostin added, before calling on the Democrats to form an “opposition party.”

“I think the Democrats caved. I think the Democrats let down the American people … I have absolutely no faith that the Republican Party will come to the table in good faith,” she fumed. “You do something like this, shame on you the first time. You do it twice? Three times? Four times? Shame on the Democrats for thinking the Republicans will even vote on it.”

Hostin also called on Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to leave his position if he “cannot keep his caucus together.”

“His days are over,” she said.

Ana Navarro, for her part, called out President Donald Trump for partying with the President of Argentina at Mar-a-Lago over the weekend, noting that his failure to lead both parties to a deal to end the government shutdown and come up with a solution to rising healthcare premiums would “cost lives.”

“We must demand better, starting with Donald Trump,” she said, to which Hostin replied, “We’re not gonna get better. Because with Donald Trump, the cruelty is the point. He does not care. This is a Republican choice!”
