‘The View’: Alyssa Farah Griffin Explains Why She Thinks Trump Is “Secretly Rooting” For Zohran Mamdani To Win NYC Mayoral Election

President Trump may have endorsed Andrew Cuomo in New York City’s mayoral election, but The View‘s Alyssa Farah Griffin believes the president is “secretly rooting” for Cuomo’s Democratic opponent Zohran Mamdani to win in order to sway midterm elections.

Griffin acknowledged that New York City is “as blue as can be,” but the contentious mayoral race will certainly have “national implications,” she explained during Tuesday’s broadcast.

“I actually think that Donald Trump is trolling by endorsing Cuomo,” she claimed. “I think he is dying to run in the midterms, have Republicans running, and try to paint Mamdani as the face of democrats.”

Griffin, who worked in the White House during Trump’s first term as the director of strategic communications, explained that Trump could be planning to use Mamdani’s victory as a means of portraying the entire Democratic party out as Democratic socialists.

“There’s going to be vulnerable Democrats who are in swing districts who need to win as centrists and [Trump is] going to be cutting ads saying […] They’re all Democratic socialists despite what they say,” she claimed.

But Griffin maintained Americans “shouldn’t be taking massive lessons” from who is elected mayor of a city that consistently elects Democrats. “We should be looking to people who are able to bring over people who may not agree with them,” she said.

“But I’m telling you Trump is secretly rooting for Mamdani,” she concluded.

Cuomo made a similar point when he visited The View in October, well before Trump officially endorsed him in the race.

The former New York governor claimed he was “the last person” Trump would want leading the city. “New Yorkers watched the movie every day. During Covid, I was the governor, he was the president we fought on a daily basis,” he said. “[Trump] came with all his threats, all his power and might, threatened to put me in jail, had me investigated twice by the Department of Justice, threatened to cut off federal funds.”

He then insisted that Mamdani’s victory would be “a gift” for Trump.

“It’s good for Donald Trump because it’s the excuse he needs to take over New York, which he said he will do,” Cuomo said at the time.

Griffin certainly agreed at the time. “Ahead of the midterms, he wants Mamdani to win, 100%,” Griffin commented. “I can attest he is not a fan of [Cuomo].  Donald Trump is not.”
