‘The Chair Company’

What to Watch

Tim Robinson’s latest chaotic project with long-time collaborator Zach Kanin is the duo’s most complex creation yet. HBO’s The Chair Company starts off feeling like an extended version of one of the pair’s beloved I Think You Should Leave sketches. Mall designer Ron Trosper (Tim Robinson) is humiliated at work when a chair collapses under him after what should be his victory speech. While Ron pretends to shrug it off, he secretly becomes a man obsessed. He wants to contact the chair company responsible to prevent such a debacle from ever happening again. However, as Ron digs deeper into the company, he uncovers what appears to be nefarious conspiracy lurking in plain sight. The Chair Company blends Robinson’s humor with deeper emotions and clever homages to the work of David Lynch.
